Patricia Gruber, President of the Gruber Foundation at Yale

Barbara is a treasure. My husband died, but his life was much richer because of Barbara’s commitment, professionalism, optimism and diligence.

She not only became part of the treatment team, she became part of our family. She was committed even when his Parkinsonism ultimately prevented him from speaking at all. She not only made home visits but also used face time on the computer.

Her professionalism included research into his diagnosis (she worked to verbally stimulate the appropriate part of the brain) creative treatment tailored to his unique personal history (which included using readings from texts important to him). While her cheerful optimism resulted not only in team building among caregivers, and all of us, we also have reason to believe he was buoyed by the treatment as well.

She came until the very last. Barbara worked to understand him as a person, and her genuine wish to clinically activate and harness his compromised abilities made a difference. I would highly recommend her services to anyone. I could go on…don’t get me started!
